Proposed Project Objective: Enhanced use of data for decision making in the environment sector throughout the Pacific region. Building on the tools and momentum the Inform project established, this scaled up project will expand the user base and fill significant gaps including in situ monitoring, increased partnerships between the environment ministries and other ministries, increase use of spatial tools, and the establishment of standardise environmental standards and key indicators for key resources.

This paper examines the impact that a faster growth rate in visitor arrivals will have on three areas of
environmental concern on Rarotonga: solid waste, liquid waste and water. Sustainable solutions to prevent
effects on the environment are suggested and a timeline for achieving these estimated to show how
improvements to our infrastructure cannot happen overnight. The paper will then demonstrate why a growth
rate of 4% (the typical growth rate in tourist arrivals over the last 30 years) is more economically and

DEFINITION - Level of extractive terrestrial wildlife use by humans
PURPOSE- Increase the safety to species, ecosystems, and people from the sustainable use of terrestrial wildlife
DESIRED OUTCOME - Monitored and sustainable use of wildlife with stable populations; zero use of protected species
